چکیده

This paper describes a research on the biological validity of virtual ecosystems. Artificial Life systems are designed in the pursuit of creating an instance of life in a computational environment. The reproduction mechanisms of these systems are compared with nature’s reproduction mechanisms as described by Ernst Mayr. This research determines if the ecosystems give a correct representation of natural evolution, and for what goal evolutionary scientists can use these systems for biological science.

Evolving Mobile Robots in Simulated and Real Environments

The problem of the validity of simulation is particularly relevant for methodologies that use machine learning techniques to develop control systems for autonomous robots, as, for instance, the artificial life approach known as evolutionary robotics. In fact, although it has been demonstrated that training or evolving robots in real environments is possible, the number of trials needed to test ...

Evolving Spiking Neural Networks in the GReaNs (Gene Regulatory evolving artificial Networks) Plaftorm

GReaNs (which stands for Genetic Regulatory evolving artificial Networks) is an artificial life software platform that has previously been used for modeling of evolution of gene regulatory networks able to process signals, control animats and direct multicellular development in two and three dimensions. The structure of the network in GReaNs is encoded in a linear genome, without imposing any r...

Delineation of Groundwater Recharge Sites Using GIS Case Study: Sefied Dasht

The water crisis is harmful effects on human life. Also one of the most problems in the human society is water resources management. In this study, site selection of most suitable areas for artificial recharge using Boolean model. Criteria used to select the most suitable area for artificial recharge included: infiltration, slope, aquifer thickness, aquifer quality.  The layers were produced an...

Use of Artificial Neural Networks to Examine Parameters Affecting the Immobilization of Streptokinase in Chitosan

Streptokinase is a potent fibrinolytic agent which is widely used in treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE) and acute myocardial infarction (MI). Major limitation of this enzyme is its short biological half-life in the blood stream. Our previous report showed that complexing streptokinase with chitosan could be a solution to overcome this limitation. The aim of this re...
